Smartphone batteries aren't always what they could be, but Chinese
manufacturer Gionee appears to have found a reasonable solution with
its latest handset.
The Gionee M5 is the world's first Android Lollipop smartphone with
two batteries, which are said to be capable of sustaining it for up to
96 hours.
Each power cell has a capacity of 3,000mAh, and users can charge one
up while the other is powering the phone, swapping them over when the
need arises.
The device's other hardware specs are typical of a mid-range offering
- a 5.5-inch 720p AMOLED screen, a quad core 1.3GHz processor, 2GB of
RAM and 16GB of internal storage.
Battery life is the biggest selling point for the phone, but that
extra runtime comes at a cost, with the Gionee M5 measuring in at a
bulky 152 x 176 x 8.6mm and tipping the scales at 213g, more than
twice that of the iPhone 6 Plus.
Gionee is yet to confirm which markets the phone will be released in
or how much it will cost.
